A few months back I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Movie Menu Reviews. These guys have a unique podcast that not only covers mainstream films, but they also highlight indie features, share personal rants about the industry and interview upcoming filmmakers. To say the least I admire them for all the hard work they put into their show, it's a great listen for both movie goers and filmmakers.
I had the privilege of meeting them through a mutual friend, Laila Hajjali of White Pants Productions. I met Laila while studying filmmaking at PCC and have worked with her on various projects ever since. When MMR wanted to start a new segment about filmmakers, they asked her if she knew anyone that would be interested in being on their podcast, luckily she mentioned me. As I arrived at the studio I was able to meet and speak with the MMR team before the interview. The show is hosted by Dan "The Man' Munoz, with co-hosts Mike Stand and Alexander Z. What's great about these guys is that they have a genuine love and appreciation for movies. May it be big time blockbusters, small indie flicks, classic films and just about anything that has ever been made. Needless to say we spent a good amount of time geeking out on upcoming films both before and after the interview, as well as sharing a love for the 80's cult classic Back to The Future. During the interview we discussed how I got my start in filmmaking, which directors inspire me, the process of shooting Culture, and we ended up geeking out on different films and upcoming projects. The interview was fun to say the least and afterwards I was invited to return to the show as a guest reviewer. This Saturday I will be heading back to MMR as we review the new Ryan Reynolds sci-fi thriller Self/less. Being a fan of both sci-fi and thrillers, I am truly looking forward to this movie. I will be posting the review as soon as it becomes available, in the mean time here is my interview with Movie Menu Reviews. - Manuel Montanez
